

The era of presser-less UFC events came to an end as Daniel Cormier and Sean O’Malley joined ESPN reporter Megan Olivi in a virtual session of questions and answers, posed to them by fans.
In various conversations, the inevitable topic of Sean O’Malley’s rapidly growing success hit the table. And DC had some very thoughtful insights on the reason behind O’Malley’s sky-rocketing popularity.

Tracing the journey back to Dana white’s Contender Series where ‘Suga Show’ was birthed in the UFC, Cormier said,
“Obviously, when he fought, and everybody went crazy. And the Snoop reactions were so entertaining. But he was just a kid, you know? Just a normal kid that was fighting. He had a personality, he had charisma. He had a great fighting style. But as I look at Sean today from when he was on the contender series? I see an evolution. I see evolution in his character, I see evolution in his ability to connect with the fans.”
Truly, in a brief time period, the ‘Suga Show’ has expanded into one of the most promising and followed entities of the sport.

Decoding Sean’s success, DC described characteristics that garner stardom in the sport. He said,
“Because everything that you do has to be truly organic. These people have to come to you. They have to feel like they relate to you. And that’s why they support you.”

In Sean’s case, DC believes that there is much, much more to come. He said,
“I feel like he’s done a fantastic job of finding where he belongs in the sport, and just getting to that point and exploding through it, and going to the next level. So, now it’s not just gonna be Sean O’Malley fans. It’ll be general sports fans and not MMA fans. You just gotta keep pushing through the ceiling every time you get to a barrier.”
However, Cormier did mention that there is only one constant that must never change. He said,

“He’s got to keep winning. Because that’s the only thing that matters. It’s all clicking because he’s winning, and he’s winning in impressive fashion.”
