Is Paulo Costa way too big for the Middleweight division

Paulo Costa can very well compete in the UFC heavyweight division if he decides not to cut weight. However, UFC weight-reducing policies are flexible and allow their fighters to drop and extended weights on a broad scale.

Costa cuts around 50-55 pounds before each fight. The Brazilian recently posted a video of his training regime on YouTube and gave an interesting insight.

Costa, currently gearing up for his upcoming fight against Israel Adesanya, is leaving no stones unturned. However, his current weight is worth noting. Costa claims himself to be above 200 lbs right now. He is easily a heavyweight at this point.

Daniel Cormier weighed 236 lbs, on his latest appearance against Stipe Miocic at UFC 252. While MMA leagues like One FC don’t support weight cut, UFC does not have any regulations for it.

MMA Junkie has also reported that Costa was advised to move up to the light heavyweight, considering his physical attire and weight cuts. Yet, he can very well be the middleweight champion by the end of this year.

UFC 253 preview

Adesanya and Costa have spat venom at each other several times in the past. Apart from their clean records and championship belt, the contest is also alluring for their mutual animosity.
