Justin Gaethje is a fighter who has a penchant for violence. Contrary to several fighters, he doesn’t mind fighting in front of a hostile crowd. ‘The Highlight’ has admitted that he would’ve probably been better off fighting Khabib Nurmagomedov in Russia. That way he would have an arena full of fans wishing to see him lose.

Gaethje will step inside the octagon at UFC 254 with an aim to take the UFC lightweight championship from Nurmagomedov, at least that’s what most of the fans believe. As far as Gaethje is concerned, the primary motive is to tarnish Khabib’s undefeated record. The belt is just an added incentive.

Often termed as the most violent man in the most violent sport, the Safford, Arizona native, has nerves of steel. He openly accepts that he would love to fight in an arena that has 100,000 fans itching to witness him lose the fight.

“If you go back a couple of years ago, I said I wanted to go to Brazil and fight their best. I wanted to go to Ireland and fight their best. And I wanted to come to Russia and fight Khabib. That’s the chaos. They wish ill on you, but they don’t necessarily want you to die or anything,” Justin Gaethje said during the UFC 254 pre-fight press conference.

“That hostility is what I thrive in. I can’t wait for people to be back up. There’re 100,000 people wanting me to die, it would be fantastic. It’d be such a great feeling,” he added.

He has traded some of his recklessness for more success inside the octagon. With Trevor Wittman in his corner, ‘The Highlight’ has matured into what many believe to be the perfect kryptonite for Khabib. This designation was with him even before the Tony Ferguson fight. The performance at UFC 249 was more like a confirmation for the same.

Come UFC 254, a small-town kid from Arizona will have his shot at greatness in what is slowly becoming the fight capital of the world. Gaethje has already said that he sees his fight with Khabib somewhat along the same lines of Rocky 4. All that is left for him, is to produce a similar result.
