UFC Middleweights Jacob Malkoun and Phil Hawes will square off on the main card for UFC 254 on Fight Island. The card marks the conclusion to the UFC’s five-week-long stint in Abu Dhabi. The leading MMA promotion’s move to Yas Island has been a revolutionary change that has birthed a new and lucrative business model for the company.

Not to mention, the fights themselves haven’t failed to deliver and the aforementioned 185-pound scrap is no different. Moreover, neither athlete is too keen on taking the bout to the scorecards. Fight fans should earmark this bout as an immediate contender for a performance bonus at the end of the night.

The 4-0 Australian fighter in Jacob has a massive opportunity to make a giant splash in his debut opportunity. Despite his inexperience, his position on the card is an indication of the trust that UFC has in his abilities. Chiefly, he is Robert Whittaker’s main training partner and has helped the former champion train for some of his biggest fights.

Phil Hawes made waves in the MMA community through his statement appearance on Dana White’s Contender Series. He earned an emphatic first-round KO over Khadzhimurat Bestaev back in September and grabbed fan attention. The 8-2 fighter has fought in Bellator MMA and Brave FC, thus bringing forth a tried and tested experience.

Megatron’ Hawes has a violent and explosive fighting style, and it’s easy to see why he was snagged up by the UFC. He’s a tyrant in the pocket and has lethal clinch strikes that can lead to a dramatic finish. His opponent in Jacob Malkoun is more measured in his approach and will probably fight on the outside against an advancing foe.

‘Mamba’ Malkoun won’t fare well from his inexperience fighting on the big stage. What’s more, on a stylistic level, he may not have the right answers for the kinetic explosion that Phil Hawes brings into battle. Although both fighters are durable, there is a good chance this fight doesn’t see the final bell.

Prediction: Phil Hawes to claim a second-round TKO win
