Mike Perry is set to take on Tim Means in a welterweight bout this weekend. However, on the media scrum day, “Platinum” Perry revealed that he still has an immense 20 pounds to cut to be on weight for Friday’s weigh-in.

The fighter said, “You know, it is what it is. I have to be on weight Friday morning. Over the years I did it a little early because I just didn’t wanna have to do it last minute.”

He added, “I still have like a 20 (lbs) that I am gonna plan on cutting like last minute, and then getting on the scale.”

Perry is one of the bigger welterweights. So, it’s no surprise for him to have to cut a good amount of weight. But, he has been on point with the weight-cuts so far in his career.

I mean, I understand hard work. It’s not really I am worried. I am curious if I thought that I’ve gotten bigger, but I know I can do it.” added the fighter.

Will weight issues derail Mike Perry in his quest to attain a ranking?

Perry will be looking to keep the momentum going against Tim Means. He claimed a dominant unanimous decision win in his last outing against Mickey Gall. However, missing weight will not help his cause of securing a rank in an already stacked welterweight division.

Cutting 20 lbs last minute is a huge ask for anyone. Whether Perry can do that and make the welterweight limit remains to be seen. But with proper training and the care these athletes have, they shouldn’t be facing such a problem before fight night.

Perry cut down 14 of the 20 pounds he had to but tweeted that he would still be unable to make the required weight.

If Perry misses weight, he is sure to be the victim of trolls on social media. A prominent participant could be Darren Till who responded to ‘Platinum’s’ call for bids to earn the right to corner him at this event.

Do you think the fighter will step onto the scales at 171 lbs- aka the welterweight non-title limit? Or will he have to forfeit a certain amount of his fight purse to his opponent Tim means? Let us know in the comments section.
