UFC lightweight contender Tony Ferguson will step into the octagon this weekend at UFC 256. ‘El Cucuy’ takes on Brazilian Charles Oliveira in the co-main event of the card. Ahead of his fight has been doing the media rounds building up the event.

Ferguson last fought at UFC 249 where he lost in the fifth round to Justin Gaethje. Ever since then, the only thing on his mind has been a swift return to the sport. Sitting down with Brian Campbell from Morning Kombat, Ferguson spoke about how his mindset has changed over the last few months.

He believes in concentrating on his own path and making his own decisions. ‘El Cucuy’ said, “All this worrying about title shots or wet dreams about the title belt and all these other things that the UFC dangles in front of me and other fighters. I used to let that affect me. I’m no longer letting the UFC control my attitude and my financials for anything anymore.”

Tony Ferguson is an embodiment of astute professionalism

‘El Cucuy’ has been wise with his finances and investing in businesses he cares about. The fighter said that he has taken complete advantage and increased his value to a point he knows. Furthermore, he stated that he knows his athlete and community value and is aware of his obligation as a professional athlete.

He also believes that in doing so, he has also shown how to be a professional even through these strange times. El Cucuy concluded, “No matter what, during a pandemic. How about when no one is weighing in, I demonstrate to these younger dudes that, why are you missing weight, I did it by myself during a pandemic.

#3 ranked Tony Ferguson (25-4) will now take on the dangerous Charles Oliveira (29-8) who is ranked #7 in the UFC lightweight division. Both fighters have been in the promotion for nearly 10 years and will look to put themselves in the best position for a title shot.
