UFC light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, took to Twitter and shared his candid views midway through UFC 259’s main event. Jan Blachowicz defended his undisputed 205-pound title against Israel Adesanya, who moved up to try to win a second belt. However, ‘The Last Stylebender’ was unsuccessful in his attempt and has now suffered his first loss in MMA.

Blachowicz (9-1 in his last 10), who came in as the underdog, proved that he’s the rightful champion. He has constantly proved his detractors incorrect, and his recent win against Israel Adesanya will solidify his status. The Pole showed great poise to seal the fight with clutch takedowns and effective ground control.

Israel Adesanya had plenty of success of the feet, but was unable to shake off Blachowicz when he was grounded. Chiefly, the difference in size and strength was at play in a big way as Jan Blachowicz came in significantly heavier. This will remain a factor if Adesanya ever moves up to light heavyweight again.

Jon Jones announces possible return date

Bones’ Jones remained active throughout the fight and predicted that Jan Blachowicz had indeed done enough. He was confident that the Polish champion’s last-minute flurry was enough to bring him up to a decision win.

Furthermore, he dropped a bomb on UFC fans that detailed a return date of December 2021. Chiefly, this didn’t come as a complete surprise as ‘Bones’ Jones has been continually bulking up to move to heavyweight. However, it’s possible that Blachowicz’s impressive performance was enough to draw him to return to action.

The timing of Jones’ tweet took some fans by surprise, as they believed he could be hinting at a return to the light heavyweight division. However, looking at the way he has focused on bulking up, it’s safe to say that ‘Bones’ will be sticking to his plan. He’s teased fans with being as heavy as 250 pounds, and a weight cut is unlikely to play out.

Jon Jones has been the champion of the light heavyweight division for a meaningful period. As Blachowicz picked up Jones’ vacant belt, many feel that Jon Jones is still the rightful champion of the division. Should he decide to come back down, that question will be answered once and for all for the MMA community.

However, for now, his future is seemingly with the big boys of the heavyweight division. And in December, UFC fans will get a glimpse of the new and improved Jones within the octagon.
