Makhachev was patiently hanging on to every word of advice that came from Khabib Nurmagomedov in his corner. The lightweight champion has seen it all and is not short on a wealth of experience in fighting at a high level. His expertise is expected to carry several AKA and Eagle MMA fighters to actualize a championship dream.

Fans of the sport have come to expect Nurmagomedov to take on his role as the chief trainer in his father’s absence. Fighters like Islam Makhachev will thrive off the tutelage and experience handed down to them from ‘The Eagle’. They have all trained in the same circuit and are well aware of everything that is on offer upon actualizing gold.

Following his win, Makhachev will want to remain active and ensure that he isn’t away from the octagon for a lengthy period once more.

After taking out a heavy hitter in Dober, Islam is staring down the barrel of a potential top 5 opponent if things play out well. Given how the division is stacked with killers, it’s more likely he’ll draw someone in the top 10. Beneil Dariush sticks out as a viable threat, especially since he beat Drew Dober as well and is surging.

Furthermore, he expressed his interest in fighting Tony Ferguson too.

Opponent aside, the main goal of Islam Makhachev will be to remain active and fight at least three times in 2021. Inactivity has caused him to remain a fringe contender and not really break into the upper ranks. Now, it seems like injuries are largely behind him, and a run to the title is in his future.
