As the bright lights shone down at UFC 264, the energy in the T-Mobile Arena was nothing short of electrifying. The capacity crowd in attendance was ready to blow the roof off the arena as both headliners made their walk to the cage. Fellow UFC fighters took to Twitter and shared their excitement before round one kicked off.

A shocking conclusion

The fight itself ended in shocking fashion after a fast start from both men. Conor McGregor landed heavy leg attacks from the beginning of the fight and pushed back Poirier. However, Poirier bounced back early and landed vicious ground and pound. However, a shocking accident took place as McGregor snapped his leg in a brutal fashion.

The ankle break came off a standing exchange wherein both men missed the mark. McGregor moved back on his left leg and snapped his ankle. Subsequently, ‘The Notorious’ was carried out on a stretcher.

The fight is officially in the books as a Doctor’s stoppage via TKO. Hence, Poirier has finally walked away with the trilogy in what was a long-standing rivalry.

It’s unclear if a fourth fight will be booked between both men considering the way the rubber match ended. McGregor immediately called for a fourth fight and more often than not, he gets his way.
