Usman Nurmagomedov, the rising star from UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov’s team, has been stuck in a devastating controversy! The 25-year-old fighter was the Bellator Lightweight world champion since November 2022. Moreover, he defended the title twice in Bellator’s World Grand Prix tournament.

The young MMA fighter was rising quickly through the ranks of elite fighters. Further, many fans were expecting him to replicate the success of his cousin. However, recent developments have put a dark cloud over his MMA career.

According to sources, Usman Nurmagomedov has recently failed a drug test. Moreover, he has been removed from the Bellator lightweight Grand Prix tournament. Also, the champion has been suspended 6 months by the California State of Athletic Commission.

He defeated Patricky Pitbull at Bellator 288 to win the title. Next, he finished Benson Henderson in the quarter finals of the Grand Prix tournament. At Bellator 300, he defeated Brent Primus for his second title defense, and an entry into the Bellator lightweight Grand Prix tournament final.

However, with the recent suspension, it is highly likely that Bellator will get a new lightweight champion. This is the first time any such controversy has risen in the Dagestani camp.

Usman Nurmagomedov’s MMA record and fighting style

The Russian MMA fighter sits on a perfect record of 18 wins and 0 losses, just like his cousin, ‘The Eagle’. Also, Nurmagomedov has ended 14 of those fights through submissions or KO/TKO.

While most Dagestani fighters have elite Sambo skills, Nurmagomedov is an exceptional Muay Thai practitioner. This makes him equally dangerous in striking as well as grappling.
