UFC Boston : UFC Fighters Predict Chris Weidman vs Dominick Reyes

Former UFC champion, Chris Weidman takes on Dominick Reyes in the main event of UFC Boston. This fight will mark the light heavyweight debut of Weidman. With not a lot of interesting matchup around in the light heavyweight division, Chris Weidman vs Dominick Reyes does grab some attention.

Dominick Reyes is unbeaten in his MMA career to this point with some notable wins over fighters such as Jared Cannonier, Ovince Saint Preux and Volkan Ozedemir. While his opponent Chris Weidman was the UFC middleweight champion. However, it has been a while since Weidman got his hands raised inside the octagon. In his last 5 fights, Weidman has managed to win only one.

Moving up to light heavyweight division might change the fortune for Weidman. However, that has its downsides too. We recently saw Luke Rockhold getting knocked out in his light heavyweight debut. So how the former champion is going to perform in 205 is something that can only be answered on the fight day, but here are some of the predictions made by UFC fighters for Chris Weidman vs Dominick Reyes in an interview with ScoreMMA.

UFC welterweight, Ben Askren is leaning towards Chris Weidman to get the job done as he said:

“I got to say, Chris Weidman. Although sometimes you get shocked when guys make weight changes and they don’t look nearly as good. But I feel Chris is going to do really well in this fight and probably become a top contender at 205.”

UFC middleweight, Eryk Anders is also favoring the wrestling of Weidman and predicted:

“I would expect Weidman trying to get the fight to the ground and I think he will be successful to finish the fight there. We will see how Dom Reyes takedown defense looks like.”

UFC featherweight, Chas Skelly said:

“Dominick Reyes is one of my favorite up and coming guys. And Weidman is a stud. I think Reyes gonna have the size advantage and that’s really gonna play in this fight. I got to go with Reyes.”

UFC middleweight, James Vick said:

“I like Dominick Reyes. He is powerful and he is big. A lot of guys like Weidman and Rockhold, they did phenomenally well, well, obviously cause their skillsets is through the roof as well but also they were big for the weight class.” but when they move up they are not bigger than everybody. If the fight goes to round, Weidman is gonna win. But I think Dominick Reyes is going to stop some of the takedowns and land something big.”

Apart from Chris Weidman vs Dominick Reyes, UFC Boston features the rematch between Jeremy Stephens and Yair Rodriguez.
