Jake Paul has almost single-handedly shaken up the combat sports world. Along with his success as a celebrity boxer, ‘The Problem Child’ has signed with the MMA promotion Professional Fighting League (PFL), a first for any active boxer. And the PFL itself is looking to shake up the MMA landscape.

Dominated by the UFC, which is accused of mistreating fighters and is currently facing a multi-billion dollar class-action lawsuit over alleged monopolistic and anti-competition activities, the MMA world is in dire need of a competitor. And the PFL has taken steps towards this by acquiring Bellator, the second most popular MMA promotion in the world. The recent tweet from Paul points that the promotion might just be on the right tracks.

In a video on his Twitter account, Jake Paul announced that the PFL was acquiring Bellator, saying it was good news for the industry as it gave the PFL a more global reach. He claimed the Bellator-PFL combined roster could rival the UFC and called on it to pit its champions against the Bellator-PFL champions to decide the real world champion. “We have some challenges…let’s prove it..their champions vs our champions. Let’s make it happen.” the former Disney star stated in his video.

What do you think about the PFL buying Bellator? Do you agree that its combined roster is at the same level as the UFC? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Hi, I am Kanishk and I am a UFC Writer at EssentiallySports. I love telling the stories of these magnificent fighters and this wildly unpredictable sport that is so frustrating and yet so joyous at the same time. I never really used to watch MMA, thinking it too crude or brutal a sport to deserve respect.
