The fight fans witnessed one of the biggest spectacles last decade in the form of Conor McGregor versus Floyd Mayweather. However, their press conferences and a grand world tour overshadowed the memory of these two leading PPV draws in combat sports history, coming together and competing against each other.

The iconic back and forth between these generational talents was a delight to watch. Chiefly, McGregor’s work on the microphone was like a sweet melody or a hilarious comedy show.

One of the greatest moments in the tour came on the Irishman’s birthday. On July 14th, 2017, at the London press conference, the undefeated boxing legend took the microphone and, surprisingly, had nice words to say to the UFC double champion.

Mayweather wished McGregor, “Today is your birthday, as a gentleman, I want to say ‘Happy Birthday, I wish you many more.”

McGregor disrupted Mayweather’s greeting and stood up and said to the crowd, “On the count of 3, I want everyone in this arena to scream; at the top of your lung, ‘F**k Floyd Mayweather.”

Then McGregor started the count-down and, at the count of three, the whole crowd in attendance obliged McGregor’s demand and said, “F**k Floyd Mayweather.”

Meanwhile, Mayweather appeared to take it all in and embraced the moment as he opened his both arms and looked at the crowd.

Conor McGregor owned the press conferences, Mayweather owned the ring

The May/Mac rivalry proved a UFC athlete on top of his game can’t just come in and be at the top of the cream in boxing. McGregor had all the momentum on his side, he was a UFC double champion, younger than Floyd, was always a striker, and had weight on his side (McGregor weighed 153 lbs for the fight). Yet he couldn’t conquer the old, out-of-competition Mayweather.
