While the UFC didn’t have a huge event going on, the boxing world was abuzz with excitement for a spectacular match. Billy Joe Saunders and Canelo Alvarez were set to duke it out in the ring to unify the WBA, WBC, and WBO belts. In an event of this magnitude, the stars of the MMA world, like Conor McGregor, were watching too.

The fight didn’t disappoint as it was an action-packed slug-fest. Canelo started strong and won the first four rounds. However, Saunders came into his own and started to mount a comeback by winning the next three. The fight couldn’t go the distance as Alvarez ended it in the 8th round via TKO.

This fight was their second fight in 2016 as Diaz got a huge upset victory over McGregor at UFC 196. He submitted McGregor in the second round in a match that was uncharacteristic for the featherweight champion. However, it was McGregor’s debut at welterweight, and he looked undersized against Diaz.

An immediate rematch was announced, and McGregor finally got the win in their fight to get his momentum back. To this day, there are rumors of a third fight between Diaz and McGregor. The fact that Diaz is coming back to fight Leon Edwards only puts more fuel to the fire. It’s a huge match and the pipedream of every MMA fan.
