Top Rank CEO and Founder Bob Arun has been the driving force of the sport in the 1980s and organized super fights such as Marvelous Marvin Hagler vs Thomas Hearns. This year he told ESPN he had another super fight in his mind. It would feature UFC’s Conor McGregor and WBO Welterweight Champion Terence Crawford. However, his latest comments have left fans bemused and perplexed.

Bob Arum performs U-Turn on Terence Crawford vs Conor McGregor

As per a Tweet from TalkSPORT editor Mike Benson the promoter appeared on iFLTV and said, Terence Crawford vs Conor McGregor is nonsense. They’re not real fights… If you had Federer play Woods in golf, would Federer have a chance? You put Woods on a tennis court with Federer, would Woods have a chance? MMA and boxing are different sports.”

‘Notorious’ has experience in boxing and competed against one of the greats in Floyd Mayweather Jr. He lost the bout in ten rounds. This gives weight to Arum’s analogy. But, the duo never fought inside the Octagon.

The Crawford-McGregor proposal was a two-way fight with the first taking place inside the Octagon under MMA rules and the second inside the boxing ring.

The WBO Welterweight Champion told iFL TV he was on board with the idea, “if the money is right.”

‘Notorious’ currently fights at Lightweight in the UFC. He would have to bump up a weight class if this fight comes to fruition. However, he has commented that he wants to make up for lost time and compete at least three times a year in the Octagon. This would not leave him time to prepare for a boxing match in the near future.

He remains focused on regaining the UFC Lightweight Championship and was imperious in his 40-second defeat of Donald Cerrone at UFC 246. He remained silent over a potential fight with ‘Bud’ and remains committed solely to Mixed Martial Arts. Also, Arum’s latest comment indicates that the fight will not happen.
