When Conor McGregor beat the long-reigning featherweight king, Jose Aldo fans started asking how is he going to top that. Then Conor would go on to win the lightweight title and become the first-ever two-division champion. If we consider what Conor has been able to achieve in the business including titles, fame, and wealth, he has set himself apart from the rest of the fighters in UFC history. However, can he be considered the greatest of all time?

In a recent interview with ESPN, the light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones gave his verdict on Conor being considered the greatest of all time.

Jon Jones did give Conor the credit for being a global superstar but according to him, that is the not parameter to judge the greatest of all time. Jones stated:

“I look at Khabib and Conor and I see how internationally known they are and it inspires me for sure to work on my brand a little bit more outside of fighting. At the end of the day, for me, it’s not about making the most money, it’s not about being the most famous — it’s about being the guy people are going to talk about 50, 100 years from now. That’s what really gets me out of bed in the morning.

Jones also explained that being considered as the greatest of all time is what motivates him to put in the hard work. For him, it’s about the legacy he leaves behind him rather than the money he makes. Jones explained:

“At the end of the day — no disrespect to Conor because I love what he’s doing for our sport — I don’t think he’s going to be in the conversation when people are sitting around in the barbershop talking about the greatest martial artists in the world. So I’m very aware of that. The box office stuff can come eventually. I’m only 32. But for the most part, those records are very hard to get and that’s what really gets me going in the morning.”

It’s hard to disagree with Jones here. Although Conor is the biggest name in MMA history he has not achieved the GOAT status yet. It’s safe to say that he is arguably the greatest featherweight of all time.
