UFC Copenhagen marked the debut of a national hero of Denmark, Mark Madsen in the UFC lightweight division. Madsen is probably one of the most decorated athletes to step into the UFC octagon. He is a three times Olympian, 4 times medalist in World Wrestling championships and he has an Olympic silver medal in Greco Roman Wrestling.

Mark Madsen fought Danilo Belluardo intending to get his first win in the UFC in front of his country. As expected the fight started with Madsen looking for the takedown. Well, Belluardo did not have any answer to the high-level wrestling of a highly established Olympian such as Mark Madsen.

Madsen grabbed Belluardo with an underhook and dragged him to the ground. He not only just held him on the ground but also hurt Belluardo with some powerful ground and pound until the referee had enough and stopped the fight at 1 minute 12 seconds of first round.

In his post-fight interview, Madsen showed his gratitude towards the crowd and said:
“Undefeated still. What a gratifying moment. This is absolutely amazing”

Well, the game plan for the Olympian was a very simple one. “Get him down, beat him up,” said Madsen when asked about the win.
