Jon Jones defended his light heavyweight title against Dominick Reyes. And Jon Jones never came any closer to losing a fight inside the octagon. Many fans believe that the unanimous decision in favor of Jones was disgusting and Reyes should have been crowned as the new champion.

The first round clearly goes to Reyes who landed more strikes than Jon Jones. Although some judges gave the second round to Jones, it’s very hard to explain how. Reyes who was fighting 5 round fight for the first time gassed out in the later rounds and Jon Jones put relentless pressure and won the championship rounds. But the third round was the decisive one according to many. There are fans who are against the decision and there are fans who agree with it.

Not robbery. Close fight, could have gone either way. 3-1 or 2-2 going into 5th. I thought 3-2 Reyes but the fight was so close it could have gone either way.

The argument presented by Cormier makes a lot more sense than one judge giving 4 rounds to Jones. Reyes won the first two rounds, the third round can go either way, and Jones won the fourth round.

Though Daniel Cormier is not complaining that Jones won the fight he does not agree that Jones should be awarded a 49-46 score for the fight with Reyes.

Cormier even shut down a fan bringing up one of the most overused notions, which is you can not let the fight go to the judges’ scorecards in a title fight. Cormier said:

This train of thought is nuts man, I have no idea how this still gets repeated over and over. It’s a fight between two people. The person who does most damage wins the fight. Just be happy got a great fight tonight. It was close fight.
