UFC Fight Night 2 on Fight Island drew to a close and a new Flyweight champion was crowned. Deiveson Figueiredo picked up a first-round submission victory over perennial contender Joseph Benavidez in the third event at Abu Dhabi. Additionally, the fight marked the second headlining feature for newly minted champion Figueiredo.

The MMA community exploded on Twitter with praise for the new flyweight king who put the world on notice. Moreover, the fight saw sheer dominance from the 19-1 professional who put an emphatic stamp on his victory.

UFC correspondent Megan Olivi took to Twitter and showed support for her husband, Joseph Benavidez. Despite his brilliance in the weight class, he is now 0-4 in title fights under the promotional banner.

Former two divisional champion, Daniel Cormier, was quick to chime in on social media and has sung Figueiredo’s praises. Chiefly, he expressed his views on the utter dominance the champion displayed in his scheduled bout.

The veteran voice of the UFC Broadcast, Jon Anik, chimed in on the statement victory by the Brazilian. He pointed out that Figueiredo’s performance was further bolstered by the adversity he faced. Additionally, he successfully managed to cut to championship weight despite arriving at Yas Island on a delayed schedule.

Former flyweight champion and consensus GOAT, Demetrious Johnson, lauded his former rival, Joseph Benavidez. Undoubtedly, recognition from the former champion is significant as ‘Mighty Mouse’ is arguably the titan of the division.

Several fighters and personalities recognized and paid homage to Deiveson Figueiredo, who is at the very top of the mountain. Moreover, he has shown on multiple occasions to be a step ahead of his contemporaries. Not to mention, he has doubled down on his dominance of ‘JoeJitsu’ from their first outing.
