UFC FIght Night 158 showcased a middleweight bout between Uriah Hall and Antonio Carlos Junior

Both Uriah Hall and Antonio Carlos Jr are the products of the Ultimate Fighting Champion and both of them came into the UFC with a big hype behind them. However, now both are UFC veterans with tons of experience inside the octagon. Carlos Junior was on  great run coming into the fight with 4 wins out of 5 fights. On the other hand, Uriah Hall was coming off a huge knock out victory. Going into the fight Antonio Carlos Junior was a strong favorite and he did live up to all the expectations.

The first round was a good back and forth with Uriah Hall busting Carlos Junior’s nose with a vicious jab. It was clear Hall was the superior striker however Carlos Junior survived the early fury from Hall and took the fight to ground. Carlos Junior did get Hall’s back in the first round. However, Hall controlled Carlos Junior’s wrist in the position and prevented Carlos from submitting him with a choke.

Second round was one crazy round. The match was very close to be over when Hall threw a beautiful combination which knocked down the Barzillian and it seemed Carlos was out. However, Carlos persevered and controlled the fight on the ground. However, it never seemed Hall was in any danger of getting submitted in the second round.

Third round clearly went to Carlos Junior who controlled Hall for the most part of the final five minutes. Although Carlos Junior got Hall on the ground and was very close to getting a rear naked choke or a neck crank, Hall showed beautiful defense and survived.

Well, in the end Hall did enough to get the victory via split decision and in his post fight interview he called out Israel Adesanya to a fight. Adesanya is the current middleweight interim champion who will be facing the undisputed UFC champion, Robert Whittaker in the main event of UFC 243. With Adesanya’s striking he does seem a bit too much for Uriah Hall.

However, in last few fights Uriah Hall has shown a new side of his fighting which seems to be working pretty well for him inside the octagon. Even with that it’s very unlikely to see these two fighters inside the octagon soon.
