UFC lightweights Joe Solecki and Jared Gordon will meet in the middle at UFC Fight Night: Santos vs Walker. The bout is placed as the headliner for the preliminary section of the fight card as it has the scope to be a banger. However, given the firepower on the main card, it’s unlikely that this competitive match-up earns the Fight of the Night.

The lightweight division occupies prime real estate in the eyes of fans right now and the division has a high conversion rate. It’s not impossible to make an impact by putting together a slew of impressive, eye-catching victories. Chiefly, both Solecki and Gordon have shown flashes of brilliance and fans are expecting a thriller.

UFC Fight Night: Joe Solecki vs Jared Gordon

Joe Solecki is on an impressive 6-fight win streak and he’s coming off a unanimous decision win over Jim Miller. He burst onto the scene at Dana White’s Contender Series and hasn’t lost a fight under the promotional banner to date. He has star potential written all over him so long as he can convert his victory into impressive finishes.

Solecki is adept at pushing the fight to his pace and is comfortable cruising to a decision over 15 minutes. He usually performs in bursts and will have to be wary of Gordon’s counterattacks in the middle portions of each round.

Flash’ Gordon is on a two-fight win streak and he defeated Danny Chavez in his last contest back in February 2021. He’s faced some top-tier talent in his 17-4 career, facing the likes of current champion Charles Oliveira and Diego Ferreira. While he’s stumbled in the aforementioned fights, he’s shown that he’s willing to trade with anyone on the roster.

Gordon’s style is heavily oriented towards explosive movement, but this leaves him open to being countered. Additionally, he doesn’t defer to his ground game nearly enough and thus tends to get caught up in firefights. Against a hard-hitter like Solecki, Jared Gordon will be well advised to cut the cage and smother his opponent.
