Following another successful event during the pandemic, President Dana White spoke to reporters at the press conference. White responded to an interviewer’s question about paying tribute to George Floyd at the post-fight press conference.

A Minneapolis police officer ended George Floyd’s life after placing his knee on the victim’s neck for over eight minutes. The whole ordeal was caught on tape and outcry began as yet another case of racial abuse plagued the country.

With a slew of similar high-profile cases, there appears to be a systemic pattern that just won’t go away. Other police officials present at the scene simply looked on as this horrific ordeal took place.

In light of these events, outraged protestors took to the streets and violent dissension began in various different states. The National Guard has been called into Minneapolis after a police station was burned down.

The UFC came out with a tribute to George Floyd during the broadcast for UFC Fight Night Woodley vs Burns. They have similarly shown support for the company’s hometown during the 2017 Vegas Strip shooting.

The company also paid homage to NSAC Ringside Physician Dr. Albert Capanna. The neurosurgery specialist had a fruitful term with the company and the commission.

“Yeah, we did it for him and the Nevada State Athletic Commission doctor too. Cause we should. What happened was horrible and it’s something that is really affecting this country right now. It was the right thing to do,“ White said.

The UFC made the right move by standing with the community. At a time of turmoil, a leading organization like the UFC supporting the masses will go a long way.
