WATCH: Alistair Overeem Destroys Walt Harris in Second Round on 40th Birthday

A fight that is certainly in the race for the Fight of the Night bonus, Alistair Overeem stopped Walt Harris in the second round. A fight that has a lot of history to it, met a sitting end. One filled with emotion, drama, and intensity.

Every fight has a certain human element to it. However, none more so than the Overeem vs Harris matchup. The fight has been delayed on two occasions.

Initially under one of the most heartwrenching circumstances, the disappearance and murder of Aniah Blanchard, Harris’ step-daughter. The Coronavirus pandemic tightening its grip on the world forced another delay.

The fight kicked off with both fighters engaging each other with a blistering pace.

However, Harris soon took control of the fight and had Overeem circling the octagon with his back facing the cage. Overeem displayed his spatial awareness and agility ducking a series of heavy hits from Harris.

However, he could not duck them all and a massive combination sent 40-year-old fighter sprawling on the canvas. Overeem was struggling to find his way back to his feet, but he managed to do so soon enough. To many, the fight was over right there, with Harris dropping bombs on Overeem.

However, Overeem turned the tables on Harris and took him to ground soon after he gained some control. It cost the Dutchman a lot of blood.

Overeem was on top of Harris throughout the final moments of the first round, efficiently controlling the fight and picking up on points by dropping lethal punches and knees.

Harris walked away from the first round knowing that he would not get a better opportunity to take Overeem out again. And rightly so.

With his newfound confidence, the former Strikeforce Heavyweight champion took charge and didn’t let go. Continuously pressuring The Big Ticket, Overeem displayed his athletic prowess.

A huge kick to the head followed by a series of well-timed and accurate punches sent Harris to the floor, yet again. However, this time it was for good.

Overeem continued to drop huge punches perched on Harris’ back pressuring him to the point that the referee had to step in to save the southpaw.

A certain sense of camaraderie and respect followed the second-round TKO before the fighters parted ways.

Undefeated in his last 4 fights, Overeem handed Harris his first loss since June 2018. However, this fight marks Harris and his family’s journey back to normalcy following the tragedy that they have been through.
