Lightweight division fighters Beneil Dariush and Scott Holtzman kicked off proceedings on the UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs Oleinik main card. The fighters did not disappoint, despite a rather stop-start affair in round one. Aggressive tactics dominated the scene, with fourteenth-ranked Dariush securing a quick finish to record his fifth win on the bounce.

Immediately after the win, former UFC fighter Ben Askren claimed that the 31-year-old stole his signature finish.

Within the opening forty seconds of the bout, there were two stoppages for accidental eye pokes. These occurred as Holtzman swung and Dariush backed off, causing the glove to brush against his eyeball.

Following this, Dariush rushed forward and tried to secure a takedown. Though he could not quite manage it, he did keep Holtzman pinned to the octagon fence.

At the two-minute mark, the Iranian fighter landed a knee to his opponent’s face. He followed it up with a repeat strike before unleashing two haymakers, thus drawing his opponent forward into a clinch.

Dariush looked unstoppable and even converted a takedown attempt to gain control over ‘Hot Sauce.’ He wrapped his legs around Holtzman to secure back control.

Holtzman had no answer to the relentless offense, as he ate knees in close range and had to dodge monstrous punches when at a distance. Because of the punishment he had taken, a cut opened over his left eye.

In the last minute, Dariush, who trains with Kings MMA’s Raphael Cordeiro, made it a boxing match. As Holtzman braced for his punches, Dariush switched tactics. He went for a left jab before a sharp spinning back fist connected with Holtzman, sending him crashing down the canvas.

The fourteenth-ranked lightweight knew that his blow was enough and didn’t even pursue his fallen opponent. As soon as the back fist connected, Dariush turned away. He inclined his head and surveyed his handiwork from the corner of his eye.
