WATCH: Billy Quarantillo Knocks Out Kyle Nelson With a Phenomenal Two-Punch Combo

The main card is underway from UFC Fight Night: Waterson vs Hill with the first fight part of the history books. Featherweight fighters Billy Quarantillo and Kyle Nelson took to the octagon on the back of wins in their previous fights. 

Quarantillo appeared to be the free fight favorite with a high striking volume. The onus was on Nelson to negate the threat and overcome his defensive frailties. He did so for the first and had the chin for it in round two. However, that was all there was to it the fight ended early in the third. The finish drew reactions from commentators and fighters alike.

As the fighters emerged for the final five minutes, Quarantillo seemed to have had enough. He wanted to end it early. The fighter threw a left jab and then connected with a vicious right-hand flush on Nelson’s left cheek. The impact of the blow caused him to stagger backward and collapse in a heap. 

Referee Marc Goddard leaped in immediately to save Nelson from any further punishment and called the fight at just seven seconds in the third round. Following the fight, Nelson lay on the floor as he wondered what had hit him. 

Billy Quarantillo grew into the fight 

Billy Quarantillo was the aggressive fighter throughout. However, Nelson started well with body shots. He averted a takedown attempt as well before landing a leg kick. 

Following a stoppage because of a groin strike, Nelson seemed to suffer. The stoppage let Quarantillo collect his thoughts and end decently.

Quarantillo came out, all guns blazing in round two. This meant that ‘The Monster’ could not muster any serious offense, but he continued to defend well and landed a few elbows. The pressure was sufficient for him to tie Nelson, but the latter couldn’t capitalize following the break. He attempted to strike Quarantillo’s head but ate a left hand.

The showing in round two gave him the confidence he needed and planted the seeds of doubt in Nelson’s mind. This proved to be the difference in the final round which ended in a blink and you miss it fashion. It appears he took the advice of his corner seriously.

Quarantillo has secured eight professional wins in succession and won his second fight at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
