Colby Covington and Kamaru Usman put up an absolute show during their fight in December last year. It was one of the most exciting back and forth affairs in recent title fights. Referee Marc Goddard had to step in to stop the fight in its last minute, giving Usman the victory.

Immediately after the fight was stopped, Covington was not happy with the officiating. And that was visible with his facial expression while he tried to get up. Ever since then, “Chaos” has talked endlessly about how he got robbed. Despite a broken jaw and a battered face that was full of blood and bruises, Covington was adamant that he was capable of walking out of the Octagon with the belt around his waist.

Apart from what was visible to the naked eye to the viewers, the judges’ scorecard told a different story. One of the judges scored the fight in favor of Usman, 3 rounds to 1, while one was favoring Covington in the same ratio. The third one had split the four rounds into two-a-piece.

Colby was interviewed by journalist Aaron Bronsteter upon how he felt regarding the stoppage and he didn’t mince words about the same. He was very sure that he was winning on the scorecards and it was the inaccurate refereeing that cost him the belt.

Colby Covington Blasts the Journalists and Marc Goddard

“I was winning on the scorecards. I won rounds one, fourth and fifth, and was up three rounds to one and if it goes to the scorecard I win the fight. It was a robbery and it was fixed. I can’t believe any of the journalists, which are so-called-journalists because they didn’t get a journalism degree like Stephen A. Smith, are talking about it. Why aren’t they coming out and talking about the fight?

“Why are people not talking about how Marc “not-so” Goddard robbed me of the fight. All they want to talk about is how bad the officiating was in the Jon Jones – Dominick Reyes fight.”

Colby also addressed the controversial judges’ scorecard by saying that it was unclear how there were such large gaps between some of the judges’ scorecards. He was convinced about the fact that he was winning the exchanges.

Recently, Covington has also gone on record saying that he doesn’t only want a rematch but a trilogy with Usman. Judging by the current status of the welterweight division, there aren’t many title challengers. Jorge Masvidal seems to be the next one in line after having an amazing year in 2019. Leon Edwards is also riding an impressive win streak.

How do you think will a rematch between Colby and Usman will pan out?
