Three years is a long time to wait. For fans who were looking forward to watching Mike Perry take on Robbie Lawler, this predicament is a reality. The UFC 255 bout that never happened would have seen the Welterweight ‘Ruthless’, battle it out with ‘Platinum’ Mike Perry on November 21, 2020 in Las Vegas. However, following the news of Lawler’s injury, the fight did not happen. Although the UFC sought a replacement then, Mike Perry’s eagerness was far from dying out. And for good reason.

The classic quote “Everybody wanna see me beat up Robbie Lawler” was birthed in a post-match interview, right after ‘Platinum’ secured his fourth-ever UFC victory; against Alex Reyes all the way back in 2017. However, now in 2023, fans of the original pairing might have received a glimmer of hope. In an interesting turn of events, Mike Perry, took to X (formerly Twitter) to call out the now Hall Of Famer Robbie Lawler to a bare knuckle fight under the BKFC promotion.

The prospective bout was one that initially ignited a lot of interest in fans. After three long years, Perry’s sudden tweet brings the spotlight back on the bout that never happened. Staying in character, an unfiltered Perry spared no subtlety in his callout.

A lot has transpired since 2020. Perry now fights under the banner of the BKFC (Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship), the stage in which he wants to take on ‘Ruthless’. Meanwhile, Robbie Glenn Lawler, the Hall of Famer and former UFC Welterweight Champion recently retired.

But the curiosity that this tweet sparks is undeniable. ‘Platinum’ tweeted, “Come to @bareknucklefc and fight me @Ruthless_RL”. The callout is a throwback to the one fight that slipped between the cracks earlier on. But it also signifies a turn of events.

The decision now lies with Lawler. While the champ has had an illustrious career, his involvement with combat stops fans from completely ruling out the possibility of another fight. Will he respond positively as fans hope? Or will he scroll past this tweet unbothered? Only time will tell. But one thing is guaranteed. As long as Mike Perry is around, the talk of the fabled fight will never die.
