Everyone knew Conor McGregor was special from the moment they laid eyes on him. Exuding an irresistible charisma, total self-confidence, and an electrifying, unstoppable aura, there was no one like the young and hungry ‘Mac’. Of course, the Irishman had to prove himself to be just as special as people thought he was after he knocked out the legendary Jose Aldo in thirteen seconds to become the undisputed featherweight champ of the UFC.

Of course, the Irishman lost his next fight to Nate Diaz in what is one of the most memorable fights in the history of the entire sport. While the Irishman avenged that loss in the very next fight, there were some murmurings about just how good McGregor was. But, ‘Mac’ regained his mojo by beating the brakes off of the then-lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez after his Diaz rematch.

With this victory over Alvarez, the bombastic Dubliner became the UFC’s first-ever two-division concurrent champion. This is why some argue that this win against Alvarez was the zenith of McGregor’s career, integral in making him the sport’s biggest-ever star.

On the other hand, the McGregor fight was the beginning of the end of Alvarez’s career. ‘The Underground King’ would find himself out of the UFC after just three more fights. But fate works in mysterious ways, and today Alvarez finds himself in the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC), with ‘Mac’ rooting for him.

In fact, McGregor (who is part owner of the BKFC) was so inspired by Alvarez’s stirring words ahead of Alvarez’s next fight. “Going to be WILD!” ‘Mac’ wrote on his Instagram Story predicting an absolute barn burner for Alvarez’s January 25 clash against another former UFC fighter. But what exactly did ‘The Underground King’ say that has McGregor so pumped? Well, let’s take a look.

Eddie Alvarez’s comments that excited Conor McGregor so much

Eddie Alvarez will face Jeremy Stephens at the BKFC: Knuckle Mania 5 event in his hometown of Philadelphia on January 25. And Alvarez, who will fight in Philly after a decade and a half, revealed just why the Stephens fight is so momentous for him in a recent interview with ‘MMA Junkie’.

“For me, it’s a bucket list… I started fighting in the streets of Philly with no gloves on. At 19 years old, I decided to put gloves on for a career, and now it’s come full circle, and I’ve taken my gloves back off and headed to a sold-out Wells Fargo (Center) on Jan. 25 and get to do my thing in front of my city,” Alvarez said.

What’s your perspective on:

Was McGregor's win over Alvarez the peak of his career, or does he have more to prove?

Have an interesting take?

It is worth mentioning that along with Alvarez, ‘Mac’ has a connection to Jeremy Stephens too. After all, Stephens is the guy Conor McGregor dissed with the now-iconic “who the f–k is that guy” line after the former tried to talk trash to ‘Mac’ at the UFC 205 press conference. No wonder McGregor is so pumped for this fight. What do you think about Conor McGregor’s prediction for the Alvarez-Stephens Knuckle Mania 5 clash?
