Jon Jones vs Tyson Fury – it’s a spectacle that many combat sports enthusiasts and even MMA gurus want to witness. But, there are many complications in arranging the bout. First things first, Fury has clearly stated that he has no interest in fighting Jones inside an Octagon, or by MMA rules. However, Jones, on the other hand, seems rather excited about the bout – to the extent that he’s ready to face the WBC Champ even under boxing rules.
With such hype around a potential heavyweight ‘super-fight’ between the duo, enthusiasts and sports icons were bound to react in some way. Recently, NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal showed his endorsement of the idea of a fight between the duo.

Shaquille O’Neal seems excited about the proposed ‘super-fight’ between Jones and Fury
The NBA legend seems eager for the heavyweight showdown. He reposted an interview of Dana White on his Instagram story, where the UFC promoter was heard labeling Jones as the ‘baddest man’ on the planet. White even rolled out an offer to Fury, to settle the debate once and for all. Though the idea seems fading away, it seems like Shaq approves of a showdown between the duo.
In a recent story posted on Shaq’s Instagram, fans were in for a major throwback – back to when Jones vs Fury was just starting to become a concurrent theme. In the interview, Dana White confessed that he and Tyson Fury shared a “great relationship.”

Adding fuel to the debates on the fights, the UFC promoter admitted that there’s much speculation and debate on who’s the ‘baddest man on the planet.’ Almost immediately, White declared his opinion, stating, “Jon Jones is the baddest man on the planet. There’s no doubt about it.”

Fury has recently dismissed notions of an MMA fight with Jones, reasoning that he would like to have a boxing bout as he does not like ‘rolling on the floor’. And why would he? After all, he’s a boxer – so it’s natural for him to assert that the fight should be arranged inside a boxing ring and not the octagon. Some have even voiced concerns about Fury not being interested in the fight anymore.
Is this just another ‘gimmick fight’ – all for showbiz? No one really knows. However, it seems like the idea of witnessing a heavyweight ‘super-fight’ between the duo is still on Shaq’s mind. But, even so, many elements have to be aligned with the interests of the fighters, if the fight is to culminate into anything at all.
