After Aljamain Sterling Exposes Sean O’Malley, UFC Champ’s Callout of Gervonta Davis AKA ‘Abdul Wahid’ Has Fans Up in Arms

Sean O’Malley has recently found himself losing support from the fans online! The UFC bantamweight champion claimed on social media that he could “knock out” Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis who recently adopted Islam and the name, ‘Abdul Wahid’. This isn’t the first time O’Malley has taken a shot at a boxer as he was previously involved in an online back and forth with lightweight star, Devin Haney.

However, fans weren’t pleased with O’Malley’s statements as they made their thoughts known in the comments. Some even pointed out that MMA fighters calling out boxers for cross-over fights is getting “tiring”! Aljamain Sterling and his recent comments were also brought up by the fans and as such, let’s explore what the community had to say!

In a recent post on Twitter/X, O’Malley stated that “I’ll knock out Abdul Wahid”, targeting Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis. His statement however drew a negative response from a large portion of the community who weren’t pleased with his actions. Many fans re-iterated Aljamain Sterling’s recent statements where he had revealed that the PPV numbers for his fight against O’Malley at UFC 292 were shockingly low!

According to Sterling in a confession on his YouTube channel, “These are the numbers that this guy was trying to say he’s this big pay-per-view star?’”, indicating that the event drew fewer eyes than O’Malley had claimed he could draw. As such, the comments online echoed the same sentiments as they slammed O’Malley for his statement.

Nevertheless, a former UFC flyweight champion has already got O’Malley in his crosshairs as he recently revealed his thoughts on his matchup against ‘Sugar’!

‘God of War’ wants to take on Sean O’Malley next

Deiveson Figueiredo, the former UFC flyweight champion, has set his sights on a bantamweight clash with current champion, Sean O’Malley. Responding to O’Malley’s social media critique of his bantamweight debut, Figueiredo expressed his confidence, stating, “I think that he has something to worry about, I’m the original. And if he’s the virus, I’m the antivirus to him.”

Figueiredo also revealed that he is eyeing a title shot after one more fight, ideally against the winner of O’Malley vs. Marlon Vera at UFC 299. Open to possibilities, he emphasized his big name in the division and highlighted his readiness for any opponent the UFC presents.

While considering Petr Yan as “a great name” for his next challenge, Figueiredo acknowledged Yan’s booking against Song Yadong. Now, he awaits the UFC’s decision on his future matchups, stating, “I’m ready for whoever they wanna put me against.”

In summary, Figueiredo is eager for a bantamweight title shot, with Sean O’Malley as a preferred opponent. While O’Malley has found himself being blasted by the fans for his ambitions of a boxing superfight!
