Ever since his UFC debut, Conor McGregor has earned a reputation for being one of the most dynamic strikers in the game. The Irishman’s versatility on the feet, combined with his impeccable timing and precision, earned him several notable wins. With the help of his lethal left hand, Conor McGregor became a two-division champion in the UFC and in Cage Warriors.

Although he had conquered several peaks in MMA, McGregor later shifted toward boxing. The 34-year-old has been increasingly drifting toward the sweet science since his bout against Floyd Mayweather. While many attribute his recent poor run of form in the UFC to this shift, McGregor continues to grow closer to boxing and teases more fights there.

Recently, the former UFC champion gave a shout-out to boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. via an Instagram post. Now, he has done something similar to another all-time boxing great.

Conor McGregor pays tribute to boxing legend

In a recent Instagram story, Conor McGregor paid his respects to boxing icon ‘Sugar’ Ray Robinson. McGregor shared an IG post showing a picture of Robinson in action, along with a quote from the Hall of Famer.

“You have to pattern your style for each fight against the style of the man you’re fighting,” read the quote from the caption to the post. In his story, McGregor shared the post along with a ‘100’ emoji, showing his agreement with Robinson’s version of ‘improvise, adapt, overcome.’

It is no surprise that McGregor agreed to Robinson’s idea. The Irishman also swears by the notion that ‘Styles make fights,’ when asked about fighting opponents with different profiles.

In a recent Instagram post, Conor McGregor paid tribute to Roy Jones Jr. He also acknowledged the former champion’s role in helping McGregor fight Mayweather.

‘The Notorious’ wrote, “A real honor to meet and know @royjonesjrofficial personally! If multiple division champion makes you a bad man and the heavy weight division makes you the baddest, this guy went from light middle all the way to heavy weight winning world titles. Along with an absolutely insane highlight reel that I still play to this day. I pulled that back hand uppercut I hit Floyd with out of the Roy Jones playbook…”
