Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou created a lot of buzz after they announced that they’d square off in a boxing match. However, there was a lot of public outrage regarding that fight. But ‘The Gypsy King’s father, John Fury, appears to be in support of his son’s decision to fight the former UFC heavyweight champion.

Ngannou and Fury will fight each other on October 28 in Saudi Arabia. ‘The Gypsy King’ will not put his WBC heavyweight title on the line. However, the fight will go down in the books as a professional bout with Ngannou reportedly set to earn more than $10 million, as per Jake Paul. Despite their big crossover fight, fans don’t seem too excited about Fury’s decision to fight Ngannou since he turned down a fight against Oleksandr Usyk. But his father has got his back.

During an exclusive interview with ‘Express Sport’, John Fury mentioned that his son, Tyson, is arguably the best in the world. He also stated that ‘The Gypsy King’ has defeated almost every big name in the boxing world. Furthermore, the payday that will come with the fight against Francis Ngannou is why people are jealous. John Fury said, “Well, [Tyson has] beat everybody out there. He’s the best in the world. And I think people are just sore because there’s a lot of green-eyed monsters about, and most of it is jealousy, you know because anybody with a brain will know it’s a good business move, it’s a good payday.”

Furthermore, John Fury believes that nobody wants to compete against Tyson Fury in a boxing match. Hence, he found an opportunity with Ngannou and decided to take that fight and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the only country that made that fight a possibility. He added, “No one wants to fight the kid. So this opportunity [fight against Ngannou] presented itself. He took it with both hands and why not? And there’s only the great country of Saudi to put these fights on now because they’re blowing everything out of the water.” Furthermore, John Fury claimed that ‘The Gypsy King’ is not the first person to compete in such a fight.

The first crossover fight in the world started off with legendary Japanese wrestler Antonio Inoki, taking on Muhammad Ali in 1976. It was a novelty for the fight fans since they never witnessed such a spectacle in history. John Fury took this as an example and claimed that Tyson Fury is doing the same thing that the late boxing icon did. He said, “Muhammad Ali did the same thing when he was lineal champion. What’s he doing wrong? He can’t get a fight, there’s no mandatories.”

John Fury also mentioned that Tyson Fury is not someone who’s going to reject the big-money super fight against Francis Ngannou just to make people happy. Instead, he looked at it from a business standpoint and believes that it was the right decision to make. “So what does he do? Sits on his arms to please the public? I don’t think he’s going to do that. That’s why it’s called professional boxing. It’s about money and business.”
