Floyd Mayweather Jr. and John Gotti III recently got inside the squared ring and faced each other in an exhibition bout. The battle raged on for six rounds and, unfortunately, ended with no victor. The referee, Kenny Bayless, had to wave off the fight. Following the stoppage, a massive brawl broke out between the fighters’ teams

Later, the famed podcaster and UFC color commentator, Joe Rogan, and the comedian, Ali Siddiq, reviewed the brawl. The two noticed how the fighters kept clinching. Rogan opined that Bayless got tired of Gotti defying his instructions and kept clinching, thereby leading to a stoppage. However, Gotti has denied that.

Why did Bayless wave off Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs John Gotti III?

Gotti recently appeared on ‘The MMA Hour’ with Ariel Helwani. Undeniably, the duo stumbled upon the boxer’s recent bout. ‘The Teflon Don’ cleared the air with a story completely different from that of Rogan’s speculations. He claimed that the real reason behind the stoppage was nothing but profanity. Gotti recalled that he indeed clinched with Mayweather four times during the fight. However, it was their unrestrained cursing that led to the stoppage.

Gotti said, “That’s not the case at all. I mean, throughout the six rounds, I probably clinched with Floyd four times. So, Kenny Bayless came over to my corner and Floyd’s and warned us the round before and says ‘You guys have to stop cursing at one another, otherwise, you know, I’m gonna call the fight’.”

However, the warning didn’t stop either of them from cursing once again.

“Every time we’re in close quarters, we’re not even covering up. I’m popping out my show and I’m cursing at him. He’s cursing at me. So the final exchange, I throw like a four punch combination and I get in the clinch again. But I get my forearm in his throat. And he does it back to me, and then we start cursing again. And Kenny Bayless just waves the fight off.”

Mayweather and Gotti went against each other on June 11, 2023. Without a doubt, the fight began with Mayweather’s dominance. But the fight was waved off in round six. After Rogan shared his speculations regarding the stoppage on the JRE, theories boomed through the internet.

What did Joe Rogan believe about the stoppage?

In episode #1998 of the JRE, the 55-year-old podcaster reviewed the fight between ‘Money’ and Gotti. He pointed out how frequently the fighters came close and clinched. Rogan claimed that the referee got tired of Gotti not listening to him. “He [Gotti] was holding on quite a bit … was trying to hold and clinch and hit which is something you can do in MMA. … And so Kenny Bayless gets tired of him not listening and not letting go…”

The stoppage indeed turned the fans’ heads and garnered attention from the entire world. Rogan’s voice did nothing but add to the commotion.

John Gotti III is a professional MMA fighter with a 5-1 record. Because of his MMA experience, many combat fans thought Rogan’s views held in some truth. However, the crime family boss’ grandson has clearly debunked this.
