Today at Salt Lake City’s Delta Center, UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Alex Pereira emerged as the event’s standout, successfully defending his title for the third time against ranked #8 contender “Nak Muay” Khalil Rountree Jr. In this title battle, ‘The War Horse’ pushed Pereira to a toe-to-toe fight, clearly making a statement against doubters like former division champion Jan BÅ‚achowicz. Since the announcement of this clash, BÅ‚achowicz criticized Rountree Jr.’s eligibility for the title, stating, “What the f-ck, you know? Why are they booking Ankalaev with Rakić?  Why?”

However, with an astonishing performance against ‘Poatan’, ‘The War Horse’ became the second opponent [the first being Israel Adesanya] in UFC history to go beyond three rounds against Pereira, who had previously finished all his opponents before the third round. This battle came at a cost, leaving Rountree Jr. with a gruesome injury to his face, a picture of which was shared by UFC head honcho Dana White after the conclusion of the event.

The impact of this fight has crossed the realm of MMA into the boxing world, with Tyson Fury, who previously suffered a similar injury ahead of his fight against Oleksandr Usyk, praising “The ‘War Horse’s’ gutsy performance. He recently shared a picture on his Instagram story, captioning it, “We don’t play in the fighting game. Warriors of the modern day.” This recent compliment from the boxing legend holds significant importance for Khalil Rountree Jr., especially considering that Fury, a veteran in the sport approaching two decades, remains unstoppable.

Amidst all these praises, the most significant for Rountree Jr. is the acknowledgment from his boss, Dana White, who couldn’t contain his excitement after witnessing the blockbuster fight in the recent event, where both opponents were no less than each other, about which he spoke about in the post-fight press conference.

With a stacked card that featured blockbuster names like José Aldo, Kevin Holland, Alex Pereira, and Khalil Rountree Jr., the event exceeded expectations. But at the end of the night, the fight that resonated most with fans was the headline event: Alex Pereira vs. ‘The War Horse’

Even Dana White couldn’t shy away from praising ‘Poatan’, stating, “What this guy [Pereira] has done is unbelievable, and the way that he’s done it; this guy destroys everybody.” White didn’t stop there; he went further to commend Rountree Jr.’s underdog status since the announcement of the event, saying, “What a helluva fight. I mean, Khalil Rountree is another level of tough, and it was ‘awesome’ to see someone hold their own on the feet with such an acclaimed kickboxer.”
