Jake Paul defeated Nate Diaz in a much-anticipated boxing match last night. Diaz managed to take Paul all the way to the judges’ scorecard, where he lost in a unanimous decision. However, the fight was a one-sided affair in favor of Paul, who now wants to rematch Diaz in an MMA bout at the PFL. Despite this performance, most fight fans refuse to take Paul seriously as a boxer. In his eight fights, Paul has fought (and lost to) only one actual boxer, that too, a novice: Tyson Fury‘s brother Tommy Fury. The younger Fury himself has only had nine fights in his boxing career and is more famous for being a reality TV personality.

Another tactic Paul uses to stack the deck in his favor, critics say, is his selection of smaller opponents who compete in a lower weight class than the 185 pounds Paul makes them fight at. Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley, and Nate Diaz all fought in the 171-pound welterweight division in the UFC. And Sean Strickland, it seems, is another name on the list of his critics.

Jake Paul fans called out for defending hand-picked opponents

Twitter user ‘@MacMallyMMA’ tweeted his displeasure at Jake Paul fans for defending the former Disney star’s opponent selection, writing that even an MMA fighter would beat Paul easily if they were in the same weight class. He used Sean Strickland as an example of someone who could defeat Paul easily.

Paul has fought three retired MMA fighters past their prime – Askren, Woodley, and Anderson Silva. Diaz, too, seems to be in the latter half of his career. And Sean Strickland, a critic of Paul, made his opinion known in a reply to the tweet.

Sean Strickland replies to the tweet

In his reply to the tweet, Strickland seemingly agreed with the sentiment and pointed out that the last person Paul fought (Tommy Fury) was a part-time boxer.

Strickland had denounced the Paul-Diaz fight in strong terms and called it a “fu***ing joke” back in April. He also urged fans to stop watching “THIS BS”. He specifically mentioned the weight disparity as the reason he objected to the fight. Strickland is being touted as the next opponent of Israel Adesanya at UFC 293 next month after Dricus Du Plessis seemingly could not make the event in Sydney. But, the bout is yet to be finalized as Strickland’s Australian visa has not been issued yet, according to his coach Eric Nicksick.

Strickland and Adesanya have been involved in a verbal feud recently. This is why fans are eager to watch the two face each other in the octagon. What do you think about Sean Strickland’s views on Jake Paul? Let us know in the comments section below.
