The date for the boxing bout between Nate Diaz and Jake Paul is fast approaching. The showdown between the MMA icon and the influencer boxer was announced a few months ago. They even had their first press conference in May. While things are going on track right now, that was not the case before.

Paul and Diaz had several back-and-forth exchanges before the fight announcement. ‘The Problem Child’ had even floated the idea of fighting Diaz twice- once in boxing and once in MMA. Given his deal with PFL, that fight could potentially be made in their super fight division.

However, the pair are now set to collide in a boxing match in August with no MMA stipulations being mentioned. That was until MMA legend Chael Sonnen’s recent revelation. The three-time UFC title challenger had some interesting claims to make about the upcoming fight.

Chael Sonnen reveals surprise detail behind Jake Paul vs. Nate Diaz

In his typical fashion, Chael Sonnen compared Paul vs. Diaz to Francis Ngannou potentially fighting Deontay Wilder. The UFC veteran was analyzing why one fight was in place while the other was not. He also took up the case of the heavyweights fighting each other in both sports.

While on the subject, he said, “I suggest to you that Paul’s proposal of you come box me and I fight you in MMA, I submit to you, was agreed to. I submit for you that option and activation is in place. And there’s times that you want to use it, right? If Nate goes out there and beats Paul in boxing, we don’t need to go and do MMA. We’re not going to go and do MMA.”

Sonnen has a penchant for making outlandish claims as if they were the gospel. In fact, this part of his persona is something that endears him to fans. Therefore, fans might have to wait for an official announcement about the same in order to give ‘Uncle Chael’ his due credit.
