Israel Adesanya has established himself as one of the biggest pay-per-view draws in the UFC. He created history after finally defeating his long-time rival Alex Pereira at UFC 287. UFC legend Chael Sonnen mentioned how big of a character ‘The Last Stylebender’ has become in MMA while comparing him with boxing icon Mike Tyson.

The Nigerian-born Kiwi fighter became the first-ever two-time UFC middleweight champion in April. It was the first time anybody in the division achieved that feat. Furthermore, when people felt that Adesanya would not go back to fight ‘Poatan’ again after his UFC 281 loss, he proved them wrong.

‘The American Gangster’ claimed that Israel Adesanya still has a grudge against Alex Pereira. It is evident in his constant social media post trolling the former champion even after he won back his title. Sonnen said, “As recently as yesterday, he’s [Adesanya] making videos on his socials. He’s buried nothing [with Pereira].” Sonnen shared that Adesanya likes to get back at doubters. And he compared this tendency with Mike Tyson.

“That’s a very different reaction than Mike Tyson [who] wanted it smooth right now… ‘I didn’t mean to you. Let me take it all back.’ That’s very different,” said Chael Sonnen. He then mentioned that Tyson never wanted to get out of his comfort zone, which is why the UFC legend believes ‘Iron’ never sold out any venues. ‘The American Gangster’ said, “It’s gonna be hard for Mike to get above the ground and sell out another arena, which by the way, I never believe he ever did.”

Sonnen claims ‘The Last Stylebender’ has maintained a consistency

The UFC legend referred to Mike Tyson and mentioned how some fighters like to trick the audience in an attempt to increase the amount of money they can make out of a fight, and it is very common. Sonnen said, “You got one guy trying to stuff his coffers by fooling the audience. It’s okay. It happens all the time.”

When he turned to Israel Adesanya, Sonnen suggested that ‘Izzy’ has maintained his consistency and built a great relationship with the fans. “You have another guy who’s a part of it, who has built a trust [with the fans], who has an honesty, who’s kept a consistency. In his own words, he was even a little petty, but all the while he had a sincerity,” said ‘The American Gangster’.

Israel Adesanya has shown the people how dominating he can be after defeating every fighter in the middleweight division’s top 5. He is just 33 years old and has a lot more to offer in MMA and the UFC.
