Jake Paul has a knack for fighting against older guys. After all, ‘The Problem Child’ has clashed against a bevy of smaller, more aged mixed martial artists past their prime in his celebrity boxing career. But the one fight he has been chasing the longest, the golden goose that he has been wanting to get his hands on is Conor McGregor.

‘Mac’, of course, is the biggest superstar the sport of MMA has ever seen and seems to be approaching the end of his UFC career. And Paul, fresh off his ‘victory’ over Mike Tyson, has renewed his calls to fight the Dubliner. “Dear Conor, I know you told my team you would fight me at 170lbs. That’s never happening. But let’s run it in MMA. No weight class. Just like how it used to be done. But you won’t,” ‘The Problem Child’ tweeted.

But Conor McGregor is nothing if not funny and responded with a hilarious tweet of his own. “Nakisa already rang me, lad, it’s this guy next for you. Good luck pal,” McGregor wrote along with a picture of Mitch McConnell. McConnell, of course, is the 82-year-old outgoing US Senate Republican leader who has a history of health issues. The Irishman was taking a shot at Paul and his proclivity to fight old guys (like the 58-year-old ‘Iron Mike’) and laughing off Paul’s challenge to him.

The former Disney star has been angling to fight McGregor for the past four years, and his latest call-out is just another chapter of this quest. After all, Paul has offered not only to fight ‘Mac’ in MMA, where the Irishman will have a decided advantage but also to do it without any weight restrictions. However, for now, Conor McGregor is still signed with the UFC.

Since Dana White hates Jake Paul’s guts, he will almost definitely not allow the Irishman to do business with ‘The Problem Child’. For now, the former UFC champion, too, seems in no mood for a boxing match with Paul as he waits to make his UFC return.

What is going on with Conor McGregor’s UFC return?

Conor McGregor has not fought for the past three years and currently, there isn’t any concrete information about the timeline of his return. The Irishman had a virtual breakdown last year after a slated clash against rival ‘TUF’ head coach, Michael Chandler didn’t materialize. Fortunately, he got his date this year but had to pull out of the June clash due to an injury.

Shortly after recovering, the Irishman went on a crusade, making a lot of noise to get his comeback rescheduled to late 2024. However, that too isn’t happening. And the Dubliner seems to have given up. While Dana White has said that ‘Mac’ will fight in late 2025, nothing else is known about his return.

And even McGregor has been uncharacteristically silent about his comeback lately, not making his usual, bombastic proclamations that he was doing not too long ago. Except for a meek suggestion he could fight Dan Hooker in February, he isn’t calling out fighters or putting his name forward to replace them as he was earlier. Another ill omen regarding ‘Mac’s comeback has been Michael Chandler moving on and taking another fight against Charles Oliveira, despite having waited for nearly two years to fight McGregor.

All of this has worried fans, who fear that the Dubliner may never return to the UFC octagon. While all parties involved have refused this allegation, many, especially the fans, have a very bad feeling about McGregor and his comeback. What do you think about Jake Paul and Conor McGregor’s latest back-and-forth?
