Fans split over Dana White’s thoughts about De La Hoya

Some fans backed White up as they would in any other situation while others dared him to say it to De La Hoya in person. While White acknowledged De La Hoya’s excellence inside the ring, outside it, he considered him a terrible person.

This is what fans had to say to that on Instagram:

  • “I mean Dana does pay sh*t yo his fighters is a known fact”
  • “Ppl say the same bout you dana boy”
  • “Tell him in his face Dana.”
  • “When everyone has an issue with u and u still think that they’re the problem and not you…”
  • “It takes a snake to know a snake”
  • “At first Oscar De La Hoya was in Ryan Garcias corner and as soon as he lost his fight he started talking trash about him….thought that was kind of messed up being that Oscars a lot older he shouldn’t of switched up like that..”
  • “Dana right about hoya”
  • “TEAM DANA”

Some fans agreed that De La Hoya was, in fact, not great outside of the ring. Others just wanted to be in White’s corner. But the internet has its ways so when the post blew up, the UFC Boss’ cynics came along in hoards as well. Most of them didn’t seem to think that Dana was the saint he always portrayed himself to be. The difference may be because of their sheer opinions or because the backstory between the two isn’t always as clear so how did it all start?

Why does Dana White hate De La Hoya?

Oscar De La Hoya officially retired back in 2009 after a 16-year-long career. However, a few years back, when his return rumors sparked, Dana White made an insulting remark saying “cocaine isn’t cheap.” This was a reference to De La Hoya’s addiction and multiple attempts to rehabilitate himself.

Later on, in 2017 when Conor McGregor’s bout against Floyd Mayweather became public, De La Hoya expressed his displeasure. He urged his fans and boxing enthusiasts to not pay any heed to the ambitious event. This upset White greatly who spoke about it in the interview.

“He’d have a fight, I’d promote his fight on my social media whatever,” White told Big Boy. “We do Mayweather McGregor and he starts fu*king starts telling people ‘do not buy this fight, this fight is a disgrace to boxing, blah blah blah. But I’ll fight Conor McGregor.’”

White felt stabbed in the back after the fighter responded to his professional kindness with aggressive moves against him. UFC Boss later reaffirmed that he and De La Hoya will “never be friends.” So the bitterness between the two will continue. Will fans ever lean completely in White’s corner? Who knows?
