UFC bantamweight star Sean O’Malley has earned several comparisons to Conor McGregor throughout his career. O’Malley is a fan of the Irishman and looks up to his achievements for inspiration. He has never shied away from expressing his reverence for the former two-division champion. Like many others, O’Malley too wants to replicate McGregor’s path to success. ‘Suga’ show recently gave a peek into his future plans some of which follow Conor McGregor’s blueprint.

Sean O’Malley hit the jackpot at UFC 288 after Aljamain Sterling called him to the octagon. Sterling had successfully defended his title against Henry Cejudo and wanted to make it clear he wanted O’Malley next. According to Dana White, we might see the fight at UFC 292 in August in Boston.

Meanwhile, O’Malley’s aspirations do not end with a title. Much like his idol Conor McGregor, he wants to try his hand at boxing. Furthermore, he wants to do it against a PPV star in boxing and even named a few options.

Sean O’Malley plans to cross over to boxing like Conor McGregor

In a recent interview with GQ, Sean O’Malley discussed his future plans to try a hand at boxing. The 28-year-old said he was a fan of the recent influencer/celebrity boxing trend. He added that if he ever entered the squared circle, it would have to be a match of Mayweather vs. McGregor proportions.

O’Malley said, “If I ever do a boxing match I think it’ll be similar to when Conor fought Floyd- when it’s the pay-per-view king in the UFC versus another pay-per-view king in boxing. Sp Ryan Garcia, Gervonta Davis- those are two guys I could see myself potentially boxing in five to six years.”

He added, “I truly believe I could beat one of those guys. It would be a very difficult challenge. MMA fighting is definitely harder than boxing. That’s the reason you don’t see any boxers going over to MMA. You see a bunch of MMA guys trying to go over to boxing. That hasn’t really worked out too well but you don’t even see boxers come to MMA.”

Do you think we will see O’Malley in the ring in the future? Does the prospect of him fighting Garcia or Davis entice you? How well do you think he will spare in the ring?
