There have been quite a few combat sports athletes who’ve competed in both boxing and mixed martial arts. Heather Hardy is one of those examples who could not make her mark in MMA, but found success inside the squared circle, winning the WBO featherweight title in 2018. Recently, reports have surfaced about the 43-year-old, who has decided to engage in a legal battle against one of her former promoters.

Combat sports regulatory lawyer Erik Magraken recently shared a tweet, sharing a screenshot of a lawsuit that Heather Hardy has filed. According to the source, it shows that the former boxer and MMA fighter has sued a ringside doctor, Nitin Sethi, and an American promoter, Lou DiBella. However, there is no mention of the reason Hardy took a legal route. But we may have an idea about that.
Just last year, Heather Hardy revealed that she had been facing difficulties due to the many injuries she had suffered during her fighting career. At 43 years old, the former Bellator MMA star has had issues with brain trauma, especially after her loss to Amanda Serrano in 2023, as she claimed to have been facing issues with her vision. Not only is Hardy seeing double, but she’s also facing difficulties when it comes to focusing on something. This forced her into retirement.

“At first I figured it was normal, just something left over after a hard fight. After a day or two of that I was like, ‘Let me go get checked.’ Then the ophthalmologist, the eye doctor I went to, they basically told me that my eyes were fine. It’s the brain damage that’s causing it,” the former boxer and MMA fighter told Yahoo Sports. Well, this could be the reason why Heather Hardy sued the aforementioned people, as she alleges being mishandled by a medical professional during her fight.

The former boxer and MMA fighter also claims to have concussion issues
We know how bad concussions can get, as many fighters have revealed their experiences on a public platform. Ronda Rousey is a great example of that claim since she has repeatedly mentioned how concussions piled up and affected her vision. Similarly, Heather Hardy also revealed that she had suffered concussions, along with a swollen optic nerve, and she’s been living this way for a while now.

“There was swelling, likely around the optic nerve. There’s a lot of research that was done with fighters who’ve lost their sight, and the things that happen with those kind of traumas, combined with multiple concussions,” the former boxer and MMA fighter told Hamilton Nolan. “They explained that every time you get a concussion, a piece of your brain dies, and you just go on living without it. And I’ve had too much dead brain.”
