UFC released Junior Dos Santos on March 2021. He had been fighting for UFC since 2008 and had a great long career with the promotion. ‘Cigano’ has an MMA record of 21 wins and 9 losses. However, because of four consecutive fight losses through brutal TKOs, he was released by UFC. His last fight was against Ciryl Gane.

In an interview with The Sun, Dos Santos spoke about Mike Tyson and how he was left snubbed by him.

Explaining his statement, he said, “When I fought Mark Hunt, I had two Bonuses of the Night – Best Fight of the Night, and Best Knockout of the Night. And Mike Tyson was there watching the fight and at the press conference after the fights, Dana White said, ‘Junior Dos Santos has won two bonuses of the night’….”

He continued, “But I was asking Mike Tyson and he told me to give the Knockout of the Night to somebody else! He said, ‘Why give two bonuses to just one guy?’ So he took away from me $50,000. So he owes me $50,000!” [h/t BJPenn.com]

$50,000 is surely a humongous amount and Dos Santos might still be feeling the pinch from losing it. However, it is all in the past as the incident was years ago. Dos Santos seems to want to leave his MMA career behind and is looking forward to creating his name in another sport.

Interestingly, after leaving UFC, Dos Santos has given subtle hints that he might take up professional boxing. Boxers Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, and Deontay Wilder seem to be on his list. He has also been trying his hand at pro wrestling.

Tyson, however, is expected to make a comeback against Logan Paul in 2022. Perhaps, Dos Santos too could try his luck against ‘Iron Mike’ and settle the score.
