The countdown has begun for the highly anticipated clash between Jake Paul, the YouTuber-turned-boxer, and Nate Diaz, the MMA fighter-turned-boxer. Scheduled for August 5, 2023, the fight has garnered immense attention as both fighters prepare themselves for the showdown. Jake Paul, coming off a defeat against Tommy Fury, aims to bounce back, while Nate Diaz will make his boxing debut, transitioning from a successful career in MMA, where he defeated Tony Ferguson before bidding farewell to the UFC.
In a surprising move, the 6-1 boxer, Jake Paul, has decided to step into the octagon once again, this time against an MMA fighter. The plan is to swiftly overcome Diaz and secure a rematch against Tommy ‘TNT.’ However, this match-up has attracted the interest of several prominent figures, including renowned boxing promoter Eddie Hearn. Hearn predicts a knockout in the Jake Paul vs. Nate Diaz fight and labels it as a “mismatch.”
Adding further weight to Hearn’s assessment, MMA veteran Michael Bisping has come forward to support the claims, shedding light on why Jake Paul opted to fight Nate Diaz instead of Tommy Fury.

Michael Bisping has doubts about Nate Diaz’s versatility; a well-rounded threat in MMA, but not Boxing?
In a recent interview with Mike Harrington, Bisping shed light on some of his concerns about the matchup. Bisping states, “Jake’s the bigger, more explosive guy and that’s why he’s picked this fight… it’s a very smart matchup.” He explains that Paul’s previous bout against Tommy Fury exposed certain weaknesses, as Fury’s size posed a challenge.
Bisping clarifies that he means no disrespect to Nate Diaz – however, he supports boxing promoter Eddie Hearn’s viewpoint, stating, “I think Eddie Hearn is right here.” While Diaz’s submissions and jiu-jitsu expertise are widely known, it is his hands that set up his attacks or his dangerous ground game off his back, neither of which are applicable in boxing.

What’s more – Bisping argues,“…the hands, the knees, the clinch, everything you know – you put it all together, he’s[Nate] a well-rounded threat. He’s not a well-rounded threat in boxing…”
The Hall-of-Famer believes that all the combined elements that make Diaz a well-rounded threat in other combat disciplines do not translate into the boxing ring.
Hence, the consensus among experts, including Michael Bisping and Eddie Hearn, is that Nate Diaz’s boxing skills are not on par with his overall combat prowess. As the fight draws nearer, fans eagerly anticipate whether Jake Paul can exploit Diaz’s vulnerabilities and secure a victory, or if Diaz will surprise everyone and prove his worth in the boxing world.
