Excitement ran pretty high with the internet running wild with talks about the Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford fight at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas in September. However, there was an issue! Dana White had some pretty strict opinions about hosting fights in stadiums. To be straightforward, the UFC head honcho simply did not like hosting events in stadiums. To date, the company has only explored that avenue for a handful of cards, which include UFC 129 (Rogers Centre in Canada), UFC 193 (Etihad Stadium in Australia), and UFC 243 (Marvel Stadium in Australia).
Moreover, the Bossman maintained his stance amidst the former UFC double champion, Conor McGregor, expressing his desire, “I’ll only come back to a stadium.” It has been the UFC’s go-to recipe to host fights in 20k-attendance arenas like their home base of T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. But is there any way he can change his mind? Well, it doesn’t seem like it. While the head honcho did attend WrestleMania 41 at the 64000 seater Allegiant Stadium in Vegas, he once again turned down the idea during the UFC Kansas City post-fight press conference.
The UFC CEO said, “Nothing will change my mind about a stadium show. You guys were here tonight. Kansas City is an awesome city. The people here are great. I really like this town. The energy in that place was awesome all night. That’s the energy you get, not that there wasn’t. What did they have, 63,000 there (the second night)? I mean, you’re going to get some energy like they did.”

So, how did White actually agree to debut in the boxing world with an event at the Allegiant Stadium? Talking about it with Papa Legaspi before UFC 315, White expressed his true feelings regarding the venue. And that, somehow, gave the fans enough hope to stay excited for the event. He said, “I hate it. I hate it. So, because I hate it so much, you know I’m gonna have to try to figure out how to make it an incredible experience inside Allegiant.”
