Ryan Garcia‘s swansong turned into a nightmare as the superstar boxer is currently under siege for his positive drug test. After defeating Devin Haney in style at their April 20 bout, ‘King Ryan’ was on top of the world, having catapulted to superstardom after the bout. But, he tested positive for the banned substance Ostarine in two drug tests- one taken right before the Haney fight and the other immediately after.

Now, the most famous win of his career is at risk of being overturned to a no-contest as well as more dire consequences if he cannot prove his innocence. And verbose UFC analyst Chael Sonnen has some helpful advice for Garcia to help him beat the charges.

Sonnen gives the most viable path for Garcia to beat the positive drug test

Speaking about the whole doping controversy, Chael Sonnen felt that there was virtually no chance that the B sample would turn up a different result than Garcia’s A sample did. The other route he could take was to prove that the sample was tainted during transit, which, he felt, was just as unlikely to succeed.

“In Ryan Garcia’s situation, he’s got one out now. He could prove a mistake within the test. Hard to do and expensive to do, but he could do it, and that could even be for who was in control of it. Chain of custody is the greatest way to break one of these things, but very unlikely to happen. When you hear about that B sample that’s out there, never in the history of the world has the B sample not come back same as the A sample. It comes back 100% of the time,” Sonnen said on his YouTube channel.

However, there was another tactic that the 25-year-old could take which could potentially save him: claim that he consumed something that was tainted with a banned substance. “Now you got one last Hail Mary, which is a tainted substance… Testing agents will then follow that tub of two or something all the way to the source, they will go into that store where you bought it from and they will buy every single one of those on the shelf and they will test them all. And if one of them comes back having dirty what you’re dirty for, you will be cleared,” ‘Uncle Chael’ added.

Sonnen explained that if he claimed this, and it was indeed true, the VADA officials would track down where Garcia got the tainted substance from, go to the actual store, and test all the other substances of the same batch they found there. And if even one of those comes back tainted, Garcia will be cleared.

While Garcia has been receiving both criticism and support following his test result, the fight has maintained a strict stance over it.

Ryan Garcia alleges conspiracy over positive drug test

After his positive drug test came to light, Garcia uploaded a video on his social media where he pled innocence and declared that he did not knowingly take any steroids. The Californian pointed to the fact that all his drug tests leading up to the fight had come back negative, except for the ones taken immediately before and after the fight.

The 25-year-old has alleged that he had been sabotaged and claimed that he was the victim of a conspiracy that “they” had hatched to discredit his win and drag his name through the mud. The boxing superstar even brought hip hop star P. Diddy aka Sean Combs into the controversy, alleging in a recent tweet that “Diddy paid for the drug test. Allegedly.”

While it is, as always, difficult to determine when Garcia is being serious and when he is trolling, his conduct after the positive drug test has been entertaining, to say the least. However, if he cannot prove his innocence, which is always an uphill task, he will face some potentially dire consequences. Along with his win being overturned, and his name being dragged through the mud as a ‘cheater’, he may be banned or suspended from competing for a significant amount of time.
