Sylvester Stallone is a familiar figure in almost every American household. Stallone rose to fame through his iconic portrayal of characters, notably Rocky Balboa and John Rambo. Though the actor believes Rocky is not a sports film, his portrayal of Rocky, a working-class underdog boxer, earned him critical acclaim and became a symbol of determination, resilience, and the American Dream. But despite all his feats, the ‘champ’ has fallen short of just one accolade – induction into the Boxing Hall of Fame.

Touching upon this topic, actor Michael Jai White shared his thoughts during a candid interview with DJ Vlad. He couldn’t hide his astonishment and even raised a thought-provoking question. His reactions seemed pretty genuine, and when it comes directly from Mr. White himself, there’s not much left to speculate.

White smirked and couldn’t believe it. He even jokingly compared it to a similar plot, but with a twist – Tony Montana from the movie “Scarface” being celebrated as a real gangster.

White: “Yep! that? see, that’s like ‘scarf it’ like you know like Tony Montana being you know honored as a real gangster. That’s amazing to me.”

Vlad mentioned journalists criticizing the decision, not due to Rocky being fictional, but because he ‘lost many matches’. These words stunned White, making him question the logic behind such an action.

Vlad: “Yeah, what’s interesting actually is that the journalists actually criticized this primarily on the basis of the fact that Rocky Balboa had lost too many matches to be considered a true champion. Not because he’s a fictional character, because he had not won enough.”

White: “That’s – we jumped the shark man! I mean I’m sorry man- is America getting this dumb?

Michael’s incredulity at the situation reflects a larger concern about the state of affairs in America and in combat sports and its industry. The idea of a fictional character overshadowing the real-life actor who portrayed him raises some serious questions about this bizarre induction.

Did Rocky Balboa deserve the spot in the Boxing Hall of Fame?

White and Stallone, both are huge inspirations for martial artists and actors in American society. So, Stallone himself, being overshadowed makes little sense. Therefore, it’s logical for White to have a spectrum of reactions while on the topic. Inducting a fictional character into any Hall-of-Fame raises questions about priorities and critical thinking in industries like Boxing or MMA. Did the fictional character deserve the spot in the Hall of Fame? Well, White seems to disagree, as anyone would, if they are in their ‘right mind’.
