Amid the recent victory of Dmitry Bivol over Artur Beterbiev last week for the title of boxing’s undisputed light heavyweight champion of the world, prominent filmmaker spoke about the time when he witnessed Bivol drop WBA light heavyweight champion David Benavidez in a sparring session. Later he retracted his story stating that he got the events wrong, and it was, in fact, Benavidez who dropped Bivol. Keep in mind the dominance of ‘El Bandera Roja’, Rogan and Berg discussed a possible but elusive matchup between David Benavidez and Canelo Alvarez.

While having a conversation with Peter Berg, the famous director of films like Mile 22 and Lone Survivor on ‘JRE 2280,’ Joe Rogan highlighted that the rematch between these two would feed families but it’s too hard to put together considering the fact that both David Benavidez and Canelo Alvarez are undisputed stars of the boxing world with their own legacy. Furthermore, that’s a big money fight, and Canelo wants between $150 and $200 million to fight Benavidez, considering the risks involved.

The UFC commentator and podcaster said, “That’s a hard fight. That’s a hard fight, and if you want that fight, you gotta get paid. Yeah, you gotta get paid. But I’m hoping that with Riyadh Season.”

Responding to Rogan’s assessment, Peter Berg questioned, “Turki would make that fight, right?” To which the color commentator asserted, “Because he signed a multi-fight deal with Canelo for $400 million. I think it’s a five-fight deal for $400 million. I think that’s what’s been reported. I don’t know if that’s accurate, but Terence Crawford’s the first one.”

Canelo Alvarez recently signed a multi-million dollar deal with Turki Alalshikh, committing to multiple fights under the Riyadh Season banner until 2026. Joe Rogan believes a rematch between Alvarez and Dmitry Bivol is highly likely, given that both fighters are now essentially under Alalshikh’s management.

It must be noted that Dmitry Bivol recently took his revenge against Artus Beterbiev, reclaiming his belt. Well, we might not know if their fight happened or night but we do know that Bivol was rocked by Canelo Alvarez’s potential opponent David Benavidez.

When Peter Berg mixed up details of David Benavidez and Dmitry Bivol’s sparring moment

While having the conversation about boxing, Peter Berg highlighted that Dmitry Bivol dropped David Benavidez during their sparring session when they were working out together, “The hardest punch I’ve ever seen anyone throw in my life was in our gym. David Benavidez was sparring Bivol. David Benavidez is a great fighter, but Bivol caught him and dropped him with a jab. In sparring.” So, Benavidez was dropped by the Russian legend? Well, no, because immediately after making this statement on the podcast, Berg took to his Instagram handle to change the story completely.

“I have to retract something I said [on Joe Rogan’s podcast] because I was wrong. I said that Bivol dropped Benavidez… and I remembered it wrong. It was Benavidez who dropped Bivol… straight up with an incredible f***ing jab. David Benavidez, I’m sorry I said that. I got it wrong. Much respect for you. You’re a f***ing beast, and I hope you get Canelo [Alvarez],” wrote Berg on his Instagram handle.

Dmitry Bivol has never been knocked out in his entire boxing career and Peter Berg reveals a lesser-known story about the Russian’s vulnerability. Regardless, what are your thoughts on Peter Bergs’s comments at JRE? State your opinion in the comments below.
