It is difficult to answer who you would put on the top rank as the greatest fighter in the whole world. But when the legendary Mike Tyson asked Joe Rogan this question, he didn’t have much trouble responding. In fact, given his expertise in martial arts and his extensive knowledge of the sport, the UFC commentator provided some solid grounds to bolster his statements.

However, Chael Sonnen doesn’t necessarily agree with what Rogan had to say. In his most recent video, he discussed how he stumbled into Mike Tyson‘s podcast when he had Joe Rogan over in April last year and shared his thoughts on the UFC commentator’s perspective. He didn’t dismiss the UFC commentator’s choice, but he did think there are a lot of things to take into account when responding to such a loaded question and came up with his pick next. Yet he was referring to the ‘scariest’ fighter in the UFC, who he viewed as a whole package, and went on to name Cain Velasquez.

Wherein Rogan‘s perspective was based on abilities and technique, hence he left out any heavyweights from his pick. And considering the explanation Joe Rogan gave to Mike Tyson in his response, it seems logical as to why the 55-year-old would rank this 5’3 fighter as the ‘greatest’.

Joe Rogan brands this ex-UFC fighter as the ‘greatest fighter’

During the podcast, when Mike Tyson asked Joe Rogan to name the greatest fighter ever, to which the UFC commentator said, “It’s hard to say, but it might have been Mighty Mouse. When Mighty Mouse was in his prime, he was so magnificent, he was so fast, and he was doing things that you couldn’t believe how he could do (that).”

Additionally, Rogan provided some strong reasoning for his answer, too. And referred to one of the craziest fights he’s ever seen.

Rogan referred to Demetrious Johnson vs. Ray Borg’s fight and explained, “He hit a dude with a suplex and caught him with an armbar on the way down. And I’m not exaggerating this. He body dumped this guy, and in the process of taking him to the ground, got him in an armbar.”

He continued by highlighting how brilliant Demetrious Johnson was when he was at his peak in the UFC. “When he was in his prime, he was fighting world-caliber competition, and they weren’t even hitting him. He was moving on angles that they didn’t expect, he was feinting them and shooting for takedowns, he was kicking them in the head when they thought he was going to throw a takedown. He was just hitting people with like wizard sh*t.” stated the 55-year-old.

Besides that, Rogan told Mike Tyson about one such incident he had with Demetrious Johnson that startled him to the core.

Later in the discussion, the UFC commentator recounted his encounters with the ‘Mighty Mouse’ that he termed as ‘unsettling’. And even this incident, in a way, merits Johnson‘s technique that Rogan praised him for earlier.

The UFC commentator told Tyson, “He grabbed me once. We were playing around. I went up to him backstage at the UFC, I gave him a hug… But Mighty Mouse, I gave Mighty Mouse a hug and just playing, he hit me with two knees like *makes hitting noise*, just touched my body. Didn’t hurt me, touched me. So fast. It was unsettling.”

That would certainly take aback anyone if they were in Rogan‘s position. On the other hand, Demetrious Johnson now competes in ONE Championship and currently holds the league’s Flyweight title.
