UFC welterweight star Jorge Masvidal took to Twitter and paid homage to one of the best single rounds in boxing history. ‘Gamebred’ posted a video grab of 1985’s middleweight championship bout between Marvin Hagler and Thomas Hearns. The scrap took place in Caesars Palace in Las Vegas and fans fondly recollect the bout as ‘The War’.
The fight has gained cult status amongst boxing fans, and it seems like Masvidal is one of them.
The fight lasted for three rounds, and both Hagler and Hearns gave it all in the ring. They threw heavy leather from the get-go and were sure to give the fans exactly what they came for. Chiefly, the exchange wasn’t entirely uncontrolled, as several technical aspects have been analyzed by pundits over the years.

The bout sticks out as Marvin Hagler, who is usually a slow starter, came out like a man scorned and attacked Thomas. ‘The Hitman’ Hearns remained calm and responded with a controlled jab that peppered the champion from the get-go. Jorge Masvidal, who’s a masterful striker in his own right, seemingly draws inspiration from the aforementioned icons.
