Kamaru Usman Impersonates Canelo Alvarez’s “Payday” To Shut Down Conor McGregor-UFC Title Talks

To be dominant in a sport for a long period is something every athlete dreams of, but only a few can achieve. In Mixed Martial Arts, when it comes to dominance, one name that comes to mind is Kamaru Usman. While Usman has kept on dominating in his division, the rumors of him fighting Conor McGregor still do the rounds.

Recently, the UFC Welterweight Champion addressed his thoughts on a fight with McGregor while impersonating boxing star Canelo Alvarez.

Addressing the rumors, Usman said, “All I have to say is Payday.” It is important to note that when Usman says Payday, he refers to Canelo Alvarez whom he called out.

Further, Usman shared his thoughts on Canelo responding to him. Usman said, “I mean we are similar guys in our respect. You know, we respect what we do, we respect each other……If enough people ask you about it which means enough people are curious about it, then you address it and he did.”

Usman speaking about Alvarez does not come as a surprise. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ has called out Alvarez before. The duo has gone back and forth on Social Media too.

Kamaru Usman’s call out of Canelo Alvarez

MMA fighters crossing over to try their hands at boxing is nothing new. In 2017, Irish superstar Conor McGregor did the same when he fought Floyd Mayweather in a fight that was a massive PPV success.

Another fighter trying to do the same is current UFC Welterweight Champion, Kamaru Usman. Usman on Twitter made a call out to boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez. Both fighters exchanged words on Twitter after Usman’s call out. This exchange between the two champions sparked a potential fight between the two soon.

As of now, both Usman and Alvarez have their hands full in their respective sports. Since defending his belt against Colby Covington, Usman is yet to fight. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ has strong contenders in his division, such as Leon Edwards, Belal Muhammad, and Khamzat Chimaev. It will be interesting to see against whom Usman makes his comeback.

Alvarez, on the other hand, recently lost his fight against Dmitry Bivol. The Mexican Superstar will look forward to avenging his loss. Apart from that, rumors suggest Alvarez might also fight his arch-nemesis Gennady Golovkin in a third fight between the two.
